An original signed portrait of famed American botanist and horticulturist Luther Burbank. Taken from a larger volume, this black-and-white bookplate-style photograph (measuring 6″ x 8.25″) depicts Burbank seated. Boldly signed in ink at the lower margin: “Luther Burbank / Santa Rosa Calif. Jan. 23rd, 1909.”Condition: Scattered surface creasing and minor wear with faint soiling/foxing; light mounting residue on the verso. Signature remains bold and clear.
Burbank (1849–1926) was a pioneer in agricultural science, credited with developing over 800 new plant varieties during his career. His contributions included innovative fruits, vegetables, and ornamentals, notably the spineless cactus and the plumcot.
