Silver gelatin print, signed and dated in pencil lower right “J. Goldberg 69/75”, titled “Tompkins Park Bum” lower left, with personal dedication at center reading “To my friend and adviser Ron –”. Mounted and matted in the artist’s period style under a chrome-trimmed frame.
A rare early print by acclaimed documentary photographer Jim Goldberg, best known for Rich and Poor and Raised by Wolves. Taken during his formative years, Tompkins Park Bum captures the humanity and intimacy of Goldberg’s street photography long before his association with Magnum Photos. Early works from the 1960s–70s seldom appear at auction, and this signed print exemplifies Goldberg’s evolving social-realist approach.
