Consignment Terms and FAQ

What commission do you charge?

Our standard seller’s commission starts at 23%.
Premium items that sell above $2,000 qualify for a reduced rate of 18%, and large collections or estates may receive custom terms.
There are no upfront fees and no photography charges — we only get paid when your item sells.

What is your Remote Consignment Program?

Our Remote Consignment Program is designed for consignors who prefer to keep their items in their possession until a sale is confirmed.
This option is reserved for larger, higher-value pieces that qualify for national and international promotion but may be costly or impractical to ship upfront.

Here’s how it works:

  1. You keep the item at your home or location.

  2. We create a professional listing using your photos and details.

  3. Your item is marketed across our major selling channels.

  4. Once the item sells, the buyer pays Grandview.

  5. We provide you with prepaid shipping labels or freight instructions.

  6. You ship the item directly to the buyer or receiving facility.

This allows consignors to avoid upfront shipping costs while still benefiting from our full marketing reach.

Remote Consignment Rates:

  • 25% of the final hammer price for items sold through live or timed auction platforms
    (LiveAuctioneers, HiBid, etc.)

  • 30% of the final sale price for fixed-price or “Buy It Now” marketplace sales
(Grandview Store, eBay, Etsy, EstateSales.net, and similar platforms)

There are no upfront fees, and commission is collected only when the item sells.

Remote consignors also get access to their Private Consignor Portal, where they can track item activity, offers, payouts, and settlement statements.

What types of items do you accept?

We accept a wide range of items including fine art, sculpture, jewelry, luxury goods, books, collectibles, vintage memorabilia, estate items, and specialty pieces.
If you're unsure, simply submit photos — we will review and advise.

How will I know my item(s) will be safe in your possession?

We take the security and proper handling of consignor property very seriously.
All items in our care are stored in a secure, monitored environment and handled using professional standards for cataloging, photography, and packing.

Every item is:

  • Individually logged into our system upon arrival

  • Photographed and documented in detail

  • Stored in a restricted-access area

  • Protected from excessive handling or exposure

  • Monitored from intake through final shipment or return

Consignors can also track their items at any time through their Private Consignor Portal, which shows intake confirmation, listing status, bids, sale results, and payout information.

We treat every consignment—large or small—with the same level of care and accountability.

Do I pay anything upfront?

No. There are no listing fees, no cataloging fees, and no photography fees.
Our service is fully performance-based.

Can I place a reserve (minimum price)?

Yes. Reserves are available for select high-value items.
For most items, we recommend selling without a reserve, as this typically increases bidder activity and overall hammer price.

How do I ship my item to you?

You may ship your item directly to our location or arrange a scheduled drop-off when available.
For large estates or multi-item collections, we may be able to coordinate pickup or provide shipping guidance.

Who pays return shipping?

For most items, Grandview covers return shipping if an item is accepted, cataloged, and does not sell in the auction.
Oversized or heavy items may require consignor-arranged shipping.
Items not accepted for auction are the consignor’s responsibility to retrieve or have returned.

How long does it take to get paid?

For in-house and live auction events, consignors are typically paid 10–14 days after the buyer has paid in full.

For items sold on external marketplaces such as eBay or Etsy, payouts are issued after their 14-day buyer return window has passed and the sale is fully confirmed.

All consignor payments are viewable in your Private Consignor Portal, where you can track:

  • Your items

  • Sale prices

  • Buyer payment status

  • Upcoming payouts

  • Past settlement statements

The portal updates automatically, giving you full transparency throughout the process.

Do you offer nationwide consignment?

Grandview Art & Auctions works with consignors across the United States and around the world.
Items can be shipped directly to us, and our team provides guidance to ensure safe, secure delivery from any location.

For larger collections or premium pieces, additional coordination options may be available.

Our goal is to make the process seamless no matter where you’re located.

How does your valuation process work?

We provide two levels of valuation:

  • Free Estimate: A quick auction value range to help determine if your item is a strong fit for sale.

  • Formal Valuation ($20): A detailed written PDF report that includes market research, comparable sales, and a structured analysis of value.

Both services are available online and do not require meeting in person.

Are you a licensed appraiser?

Grandview provides general auction valuations and written market assessments, which do not require a professional appraisal license.
We do not offer USPAP appraisals for legal, insurance, or tax purposes.
Our valuations are designed specifically for auction, resale, and collector reference.
